If we want to protect ourselves from the hypothetical power of quantum computers, we need to do it now. Apple commands the attack. Proton and Signal are far ahead.
The post-quantum apocalypse
Pandora's box was opened by Apple in late February with a major announcement. It announced post-quantum encryption, right in iMessage messages. The new protocol is designed to protect users' conversations in the coming era of quantum computing.
Cybersecurity experts acknowledge that encryption as we know it now is still secure. But the question is for how long. Quantum computer technology is evolving exponentially, and as it evolves, so do concerns that its capacity and speed will be abused.
